UrbanLoop Signage · Guides
The right content at the right time.
Plan daily offers, recurring notices, and campaign windows across your Apple TV screens.
How do you schedule signage content? Open a slide or playlist, add a rule in Scheduling, choose the dates, times, and recurrence, then save the content. Check the assigned TV and any overlapping rules before rollout.
Schedule the message for the moment.
A lunch offer should appear while people are choosing lunch. An event notice should stop after the event. Scheduling keeps the message relevant without someone standing in front of each screen.
Time of day
Breakfast, lunch, or evening content matched to the trading day.
Recurring notices
Weekday announcements and regular community or workplace events.
Campaign windows
Promotions and launches with clear start and end dates.
Choose the right scheduling level
Slide schedules control when an individual piece of content is eligible to play. Playlist schedules control when an assigned playlist participates. A TV can use multiple playlists, so check the assigned playlists and their schedules as well as the slide itself.
Content outside an active schedule may be excluded from rotation. Keep suitable regular content available so the screen still has something appropriate to show when a campaign ends.
Create a content schedule
Open the content you want to schedule
In the management app, open the slide or playlist and find its Scheduling card. Start with one piece of content and one test TV.
Add a schedule
Choose Add Schedule. Set the Recurrence Pattern: None (One-time), Daily, Weekly, or Monthly, as appropriate.
Choose the active dates and times
Use Specify Date Range and Specify Time of Day when needed. For a weekly pattern, select the intended weekdays. Review both the first and last dates of a campaign.
Decide whether it should be exclusive
For a slide that must replace the regular rotation during its active window, use Exclusive. If exclusive schedules can overlap, set a deliberate Priority; higher values take precedence.
Add the rule, then save the content
Adding or editing a rule does not finish saving the slide or playlist. Save the parent content form as well. Use Calendar View to review its windows.
Verify the actual TV
Confirm the playlist is assigned to the intended TV, the devices have received the changes, and the content behaves correctly inside and outside the active window.
Three schedules to start with
| Goal | Suggested rule | Check before rollout |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday lunch promotion | Weekly, Monday–Friday, 11:30 AM–2:00 PM | Whether the offer joins the normal rotation or should be exclusive. |
| Weekend event notice | One-time, with the event’s date range and intended daily hours | The final end time, so the notice stops after the event. |
| Regular school announcement | Weekly on the selected school days during the relevant window | Holidays and exceptions; end or adjust the rule when it no longer applies. |
These are examples, not preset rules applied to your account. Adapt them to the audience and operating hours of each location.
Local times and multi-day campaigns
Content schedules use local wall-clock times. A 9:00 AM rule is treated as 9:00 AM for the TV or location rather than converted from the editor’s time zone. Check each TV’s configured location and time before using the same campaign across sites.
For a one-time multi-day campaign, first/last-day time overrides can handle a late launch on day one or an early finish on the final day without creating separate schedules for each day. Use the calendar preview and verify the boundary days.
Exclusive content and priorities
A normal schedule makes content eligible for its window. Exclusive is stronger: an active exclusive slide hides other regular slides. Use it deliberately for a focused message or takeover.
When exclusive schedules overlap, higher priority values take precedence. The current priority control accepts values from 0 to 100. Avoid relying on equal-priority conflicts to produce a specific sequence; give competing rules clear priorities or separate time windows.
Content timing and screen power are separate
Scheduling a promotion controls what content is eligible to play. It does not itself turn a television off. UrbanLoop’s separate TV/TV Group power-save schedules can show a blank screen and reduce activity during off-hours. Physical TV power behavior depends on the Apple TV, display, and configuration.
Use the relevant TV power settings when that is your goal, and test the actual hardware. Keep emergency communication procedures separate from an ordinary content campaign.
If the timing looks wrong
- Save the slide or playlist after adding or changing its schedule.
- Check recurrence, weekdays, date ranges, daily time windows, and first/last-day overrides.
- Check the TV’s location and local time.
- Check both the slide’s schedule and any assigned playlist schedules.
- Look for another active exclusive slide or higher-priority conflict.
- Allow connected devices to receive the update, then check playback on the TV.
