UrbanLoop Signage · FAQ
Your signage questions, answered.
Practical answers about setup, content, scheduling, and managing screens with UrbanLoop.
Setting up your first TV? Start with Getting Started. For a specific task, use the how-to index or the questions below.
Setup and devices
What do I need to get started?
A compatible Apple TV that can run the display app, a screen connected by HDMI, internet access, and an UrbanLoop management account. Follow Getting Started to install, link, and test your first screen.
Which app manages content, and which app plays it?
The management app on the web, iPhone, iPad, or Mac controls slides, playlists, and TVs. The Apple TV display app plays the assigned content on the screen. They are linked through the TV record.
Why does the App Store still say EZ Plus?
UrbanLoop continues the EZTV / EZ Plus signage product. During the transition, the listing or an older installed version may still use the previous name. Use the official App Store record rather than an unrelated similarly named app.
Can screens be portrait or landscape?
Yes. UrbanLoop supports both orientations. Configure the TV for the intended orientation and prepare content that fits its shape and viewing distance.
Content and connected sources
What can my screens show?
Supported sources include images, videos, documents, Google Slides, Google Calendar, Google Drive folders, website snapshots, and feeds. You can combine supported content in playlists; source-specific setup and account requirements apply.
Does Google Slides synchronization support 4K?
Yes. Pro accounts can enable high-quality 4K Google Slides capture. Use a capable Apple TV 4K and 4K display for a full 4K viewing setup. See the Google Slides guide for setup and preview behavior.
Can I update a presentation without uploading it again?
Yes. The Google Slides connector refreshes the connected presentation while your team edits the source. Updates require processing and active connected devices; they are not an instant mirror of the editing window. See Google Slides setup.
Can a Google Drive folder update my TVs?
Yes. Google Drive folder sync is a Pro feature. It picks up supported files directly inside the selected folder and brings them into an assigned playlist. Check any access instructions shown in the app.
Do I need to make my Google content public?
The normal connection uses Google sign-in and the intended source’s selection flow. See the Google Calendar guide for calendar access and views. A Drive folder may need Viewer access for the service account shown in the app. Share the intended signage content only; your Google Workspace administrator may control these permissions.
Can I display a website that requires a login?
Website snapshots need an HTTPS page that is publicly accessible and allows anonymous capture. Do not assume a private dashboard or signed-in browser session will be available to the capture service.
Will any 4K video work?
4K video playback needs capable Apple TV 4K hardware, a suitable display, and a supported encoding. Test the actual file on your devices. If older devices struggle, use an appropriate 1080p version; H.264 MP4 is a practical starting format.
Scheduling and playback
Can content change by time of day or day of the week?
Yes. Slides and playlists support schedules with dates, daily time windows, and recurrence. Use the scheduling guide for setup, local-time behavior, exclusive windows, and priorities.
Does scheduling content switch my physical TV off?
No. A content schedule controls which content can play. Separate TV/TV Group power-save settings control blank-screen and reduced-activity behavior; physical TV power depends on the hardware and setup.
What happens during a temporary internet outage?
Previously downloaded content can continue from the local cache. New files, connected-source refreshes, and remote changes require connectivity. Test offline behavior with the content types and Apple TVs in your deployment.
Why is the screen not showing my latest change?
Confirm the content was saved, added to the right playlist, and assigned to the intended linked TV. Check its schedule, connected-source permissions, device connectivity, and processing time. Start with the setup troubleshooting checks.
Locations, access, and deployment
Can I manage screens at more than one location?
Yes. Use TVs, sites, playlists, roles, and TV groups to organize the deployment. Assign common content where it fits, and different playlists or schedules where the audience, location, or offer differs.
Why can I edit content but not link a TV?
Permissions depend on your organization role. Curators have more limited access than administrators. Ask your organization administrator to review the role or link the device instead of creating duplicate accounts.
Can we deploy Apple TVs through MDM?
Yes. The App Config Generator and Auto-Sync workflow support managed deployment. Start with a one-device pilot and the managed deployment and Auto-Sync guide, which also links the Jamf PDF reference. Keep generated organization credentials private.
What network access does the app need?
Core management and API access uses outbound HTTPS to app.urbanloop.ai and api.urbanloop.ai. Your chosen content sources and media delivery services also need access. Ask us for the current deployment requirements for your environment; this short answer is not a complete firewall allowlist.
Does signage replace our emergency communication system?
No. UrbanLoop supports manually triggered and configured feed-based alerts, but delivery depends on the configuration, network, and active devices. Have an authorized administrator test it as part of your organization’s communication plan.
Plans and help
Which features need Pro?
Google Drive folder sync and high-quality 4K Google Slides capture require Pro in the current product. Other limits depend on the account and feature. Contact us to confirm the right software plan or a managed setup for your deployment.
Can we run the software ourselves?
Yes. You can manage the software and content yourself, or work with UrbanLoop on the screens and creative. See the signage product page for the two approaches.
What should I include when asking for help?
Tell us the management and Apple TV app versions, the type of content, what you expected, and what appears on the screen. A screenshot with private information removed can help. Do not send passwords, tokens, or organization linking secrets.
