From Google Drive to your screens.

Keep your team’s files in Google Drive. Let UrbanLoop Pro sync a selected folder into the playlists on your TVs.

Updated October 15, 2026 · UrbanLoop product guidance

Can a Google Drive folder update your digital signage? Yes. Connect the folder in UrbanLoop Pro, add the synced slide to a playlist, and assign it to an active TV. Supported file changes are picked up automatically.

One folder your team can keep current.

Let a school office maintain announcements, a shop update product images, or a venue team share event information in a familiar folder. UrbanLoop brings the supported files from that folder into a screen playlist, reducing repeated uploads to the signage dashboard.

Location content

Use separate folders and playlist assignments when different sites need different messages.

What you need

  • An UrbanLoop Pro account with permission to create content.
  • A linked Google account with access to the folder you want to display.
  • Supported files placed directly inside the selected folder.
  • A playlist assigned to at least one active TV running the display app.

Connect a Google Drive folder

  1. Link your Google account

Open your account/profile page in the management app and connect the Google account that can access the folder under Google Account.

  2. Create a Files slide

Go to Slides, create a new slide, and choose Files. Open Google/Sharepoint; on a compact screen this control may be labeled Remote. Choose the Google folder selection flow.

  3. Select the folder

Use the Google Picker to find and select the intended folder. When searching, use Search for all items… if needed, single-click the folder, then choose Select.

  4. Check access and the preview

Check the preview of the folder contents. If UrbanLoop displays a permission request, share the intended folder with the service-account address shown in the app using Viewer access. Keep unrelated folders private.

  5. Save and assign it to your screens

Save the slide, add it to a playlist, and assign that playlist to an active linked TV. Check the actual screen before adding more files or deploying the playlist elsewhere.

How folder updates reach your TVs

Adding, changing, or removing supported files in the selected folder updates the synced slide on the next refresh. Pro folder sync checks approximately every five minutes while the content is assigned to active TVs. File processing, network conditions, and Google service availability can add time.

Keep the files you want displayed directly in the selected folder. Do not assume nested folders will be included. A synced slide is managed by its source folder: local add, delete, and reorder controls are disabled. The current folder-sync ordering is based on modified time; arrange your source workflow with that behavior in mind.

A folder is a source of screen content. It does not decide which location or audience sees it. Use playlist assignments and schedules to control where and when it plays.

Supported files and display checks

Folder sync supports common images, videos, and documents, including JPG, PNG, GIF, HEIC, WebP, MP4, MOV, M4V, PDF, PPTX, DOCX, and XLSX. Preview each file type and check it on the Apple TV models in your deployment; a file extension alone does not guarantee every video codec or document layout will reproduce as expected.

H.264 MP4 is a practical video format to start with. Use a resolution and bitrate your devices can play reliably, and make text large enough for the viewing distance. For a presentation maintained directly in Google Slides, use the dedicated Google Slides integration, including its optional Pro 4K capture.

Sharing and access

Google sign-in and the folder picker identify the source. Ongoing folder access may also require the service account shown by UrbanLoop. Give it access only to the intended signage folder. For Shared Drives, your Google Workspace policy or a Drive administrator may control membership and sharing.

If individual files are missing, check their inherited access as well as the folder’s sharing. If your organization does not permit the requested sharing, ask its administrator or contact us before changing access more broadly.

Common questions

Do I need to upload every change again?

No. Once the folder is linked and assigned to active TVs, changes to supported files are picked up by folder sync. Allow time for refresh and processing.

Can more than one person update the content?

Yes. Your team can collaborate using the folder’s Google Drive permissions. Only place approved screen content in that folder.

Is folder sync available on free accounts?

Google Drive folder sync is a Pro feature. The dedicated Google Slides connector is a separate source with its own options.

Will it include every subfolder?

Use files directly inside the selected folder. Do not rely on recursive subfolder syncing.

Can I make the folder public instead?

Use the access flow and any specific sharing instructions shown in the app. Public sharing of your entire folder is not the normal setup step.
